Migrating Ecometry Surround Code

Tools and Services to Complete the Ecometry Migration

Overview

Escalate (Ecometry) is in the process of discontinuing support of their software applications on the HP 3000 MPE/iX platform. The factors driving discontinuance include but are not limited to HP’s decision to discontinue support of its HP 3000 platform, growing popularity and appeal of newer Linux, UNIX and Windows platforms for customers and prospects and the lack of modern security features on the HP 3000 and its TurboIMAGE database.

Ecometry customers are now faced with making strategic decisions on transitioning there HP 3000 solutions to other platforms. Although Escalate offers migration services for the core application, the majority of Ecometry customers on the HP 3000 have “surround code” that must be migrated as well.

Surrounding code can include but is not limited to software components such as:
• Modified Ecometry COBOL code
• Custom code written in COBOL and other languages
• Replacement for Ecometry MPE provided features such as Visual Link
• Custom scripts including JCL, UDC’s and Command Files collectively called MPE Command Interpreter (CI) scripts (the MPE/iX Shell)
• MPE/iX Utilities
• MPE/iX Batch Jobs

Transformix HP 3000 MPE/iX – Ecometry Surround Code Solution

The Transformix Ecometry Surround Code Solution assists Ecometry customers in the migration of their Ecometry surround custom programs, JCL and Command Files to Microsoft Windows. The migration process is automated for the bulk of the customer JCL, Command files with embedded calls to utilities and third-party tools.

The most important features of this migration is that the approach allows for:

• A relatively quick migration.
• A command shell and batch job processor that implements nearly 100% of those commands used by Ecometry customers.
• A nearly 100% automated migration of the code.
• A replacement of Suprtool on the HP 3000 with a functional equivalent that uses native Oracle.
• A replacement of embedded FTP, EMAIL, EDITOR and FCOPY commands.
• A plug-compatible spool print interface.
• Minimal training required for Ecometry customers staff.
• Application skills and on-going investment are provided by the Transformix.
• Lower operational costs on new platforms.
• Low business impact once the migration is complete.
• Supported Microsoft Windows and other supported modern scripting languages can be integrated with Transport JCL.

The Transformix solution does not address all aspects of the Ecometry customers migration. The migration of the Ecometry (Escalate) application, and modified Ecometry customers code are assumed to be handled by Escalate Professional Services.
